Would learning another instrument have helped me with guitar?

Ive played guitar for about 4 years now, and ive recenty been playing bass the past few months, and a whole different genre to what i normally play. Recently, i played guitar for the first time in two weeks and i noticed i was playing songs more fluent with minimal mistakes. Is this common or is it in my head?
