In spanish when do you use estaba, estube, era, and fue?

i understand the difference between ser and estar but i just dont really understand the fue part. i thought i understood that fue was for the verb ir only but my teacher told me it can also be used as other verbs...?? as for estube i dont understand when to use this what so ever. any eamples would be great. thanks!!
