Spanish Question. Imperfect vs. Preterite. Help Please!!?

Mainly because you say llegaron, the others have to be fue. If you used Al llegar (upon arriving/arrival) estaban contentos, then fine. I would think that to say the apartment bathroom is of one color and that the apartment has the refrigerator, instead of saying that the couple has them. JMHO.
